 Local Interior Designer Recognized

Photo courtesy BUILDEX Calgary|Kelly Mulner Adele Bonetti (third from left) was presented with the Leadership Award of Excellence by Interior Designers of Canada and the International Interior Design Association during an event in Calgary recently. On hand were (left-rght) Susan Wiggins (Interior Designers of Canada), Anastasia Gedman (International Interior Design Association), Kelly Vanderhooft (Interior Designers of Alberta), Sharon Martens (Herman Miller) and Aandra Currie Shearer (Interior Designers of Canada).

Grande Prairie's Adele Bonetti, principal of Concetto Interior Design Ltd. in Grande Prairie, was recently recognized for her contributions to the interior design industry at the Leaders Breakfast in Calgary, Nov. 5.

Bonetti was presented with the Leadership Award of Excellence 2015 by Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the first time the award was given to someone outside of Toronto or Vancouver.

"Annually (they) recognize eight interior designers, six in the U.S. and two in Canada, for lifetime contributions to the profession and the professional interior design associations," said Bonetti. "This is done at what's called Leaders Breakfasts which are hosted... in Canada they're in the fall and this year one was in Calgary and it was the first time it was in Calgary. There was one in Toronto as well."

Bonetti has contributed to the interior design industry in Canada in a number of roles. She served as a council member for the IDA in a variety of positions for more than 20 years, including six as president. From 2008 to 2010, Bonetti was the provincial director and treasurer of IDC and the Alberta representative on the IDC restructuring task force. She also served for three years as the IDA's director to the IDC and was secretary in the final year of her board term. Currently, she is the chairwoman of IDC's bylaw and policy committee and the IDA registrar.

Being recognized, especially the first outside of Toronto and Vancouver, is an honour, said Bonetti.

"I have to say that I'm very humbled by the honour. I joined a very, in my mind, prestigious company and the Canadians that I know, and I know a number of them that have received it, I really admire and respect them for the contributions they've made so it was very humbling to be nominated for the award," she said.

"The industry partner, which would be industries related to interior design... for this award is a company called Herman Miller who manufactures corporate office furniture in a world-wide company and in addition to the award which is an etched piece of crystal or glass, I received one of the signature Charles Eames stools from Herman Miller as a gift."
