Standards
The IDA is an advocacy body rather than a true regulatory one; however we do look after the needs of our membership base and the public at large with respect to two main areas:
- "Compliance" - i.e. as an IDA member, the Standards which should be upheld
- "Complaints" - i.e. as a member of the public, how to register a complaint against an IDA member
Compliance:
"The IDA is committed to lifelong learning and the professionalism of its Members. As part of our continuing efforts to secure a practice act for the Interior Designers, it is important to ensure that we will have all of the components required for the public and government to recognize us as a profession. IDA's Mandatory Professional Development Program consists of three categories from which Registered, Associate, Intern & Student Members accumulate points. The categories are: continuing education, practice, and participation (the involvement in and/or development of the profession of interior design). In additional to this mandatory ongoing CEU component, IDA Members are required to adhere to our Code of Ethics, and to maintain professional liability Insurance in good standing.
Note: There is a distinction between "Registered Interior Designers" - which are regulated by the IDA, and "Licenced Interior Designers" - which are regulated by the AAA (Alberta Association of Architects).
