Interior design is a challenging and rewarding career that draws upon artistic, technical, and problem-solving expertise to improve the function and quality of interior spaces.
Becoming a professional interior designer is a rigorous process involving years of post secondary education and practical experience, followed by an internationally recognized qualifying exam.
The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) sets the professional standards used to evaluate interior design education programs, the first step in the path to becoming an interior designer. For a list of accredited programs please visit www.accredit-id.org/accredited-programs
Following formal education, the next step is work experience. Quality practical experience complements academic work and enhances development as a professional. Interior design graduates can participate in the Interior Design Experience Program (IDEP) administered by the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ), which provided guidance and structure to get the most out of initial work experiences. To learn more about the work experience requirements and the NCIDQ professional practice examination visit www.ncidq.org
